Celebrating the life of
Steven Johnathan "Steve" Hartley
March 15, 1949 - December 07, 2016
Steven “Steve” Johnathan Hartley, long time resident of Bel Air, MD passed away in Savannah on Wednesday, December 7 following a battle with thyroid cancer. He was 67.
Steve is survived by his loving wife of 40 years, Margaret, “Peg”; his three children, Rebecca, Robert and Megan; his four grandchildren, Lucy, Oscar, Anne and Patrick; his brother, James “Jim” Hartley and his cousin, Donald Brierley; and many nieces and nephews.
Steve was the Director of Engineering at TIC Gums in Belcamp for more than two decades, and is likely remembered by people in the area for his daily commute — riding his bicycle up and down MD543 in all types of weather, from rain to sleet and snow.
Born in Massachusetts and later attending Tabor Academy and Tufts University, Steve was a practical New Englander who never met a machine he couldn’t fix. He loved the outdoors, and had many hobbies and interests, not limited to: sailing, back packing, motorcycles, model airplanes, brewing beer and of course, cycling.
A service to celebrate Steve’s life will be held at 4:00 p.m., Saturday, January 7, 2017 at Fox & Weeks Funeral Directors, Hodgson Chapel.
In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to Hospice Savannah, Inc., P.O. Box 13190, Savannah, GA 31416.
